Today I accompanied Jared and his fellow officers from his squad to a Phoenix Officer's funeral.
Officer Travis P. Murphy was shot and killed when he confronted a suspect who had fled the scene of a shots fired call earlier in the night, on May 26th, 2010.The funeral for the officer was held in Peoria. There were over 3000 police officers, family and friends that were in attendance at the Christ Church of the valley today.
As a wife of an officer there is nothing more awe inspiring as seeing all of these officers come to support the family that Officer Murphy left behind. All of the officers came in their Dress uniforms.
Officer Murphy's wife and Mother and best friends spoke fondly about him. Sharing with us his love of cooking, golf, his humor and his love of family. The funeral was quiet nice.
Once over all of the officers drove to the grave side to show their last respects, in their police cars. I can not tell you how amazing it is too see police car after police car in a single file line with their lights on driving to the grave side. It is a sight that I will never forget. Looking out the window I could see people pulled over to the side of the road, or freeway, standing on over passes waving the American flag. Little children held signs that told the officers thanks. And many people held their hands over their hearts.

Our hearts and Prayers go out to his family while the deal with the loss of a loved one.
